Calisthenics FUNdamentals Programme

Are you looking to improve your coaching skills?

Our FUNdamentals Programme is an entry level course and the first step on our talent development pathway. Throughout the programme we look at creating the right environment for young people entering sport, introducing rudimentary movement patterns as well as the communication skills required to provide the right social and emotional environment for a young person in sport.

Why FUNdamentals?

Our course focuses on a rudimentary ‘spot and check’ assessment checklist that looks at early essential movement patterns that young people should be able to achieve before moving into sport-specific movements. These are broad based movement patterns that will better equip them to learn sport specific skills across all domains.

What is included in the course?

Our two-day programme will teach you how to deliver a FUNdamental Movements Programme while also gaining an understanding of the communication skills required to create a positive sporting environment for young people that can encourage them to stay active for life.

Upon successful completion of the programme you will be able to:

  • Provide a ‘spot and check’ assessment of rudimentary movement patterns.

  • Understand how to create a holistic environment, focusing on physical, social and emotional development.

  • Deliver a programme based on rudimentary movement patterns before sport-specific skills.

  • Create an awareness of this stage of development and ensure this often-overlooked component isn’t missed within your coaching set-up.

How am I assessed?

Assessment is based on your understanding of the principles demonstrated on the course.

You will be asked to design and perform a coaching session as a summative practical assessment.

Rest assured, as tutors it is our role to provide you with the tools to deliver calisthenics programmes safely and effectively, and we want to ensure people teaching our sport have been given the best possible learning experience.

Please be aware that while anyone can take part in the course, only fitness instructors with the prerequisite qualifications and REPS Ireland Membership can obtain the 10 CPD points attributed to the course. The Irish Calisthenics Institution is proudly recognised by REPs Ireland and endorsed by PD: Approval.

What happens after I complete the course?

Upon completion of the course you will gain a certificate of achievement, as well as 10 CPD points provided you have the prerequisite qualifications and are registered with REPs Ireland.

You will also receive permanent access to our online material which includes:

  • PDF Manual

  • Video Library
