Coaches Communication
Translating the Athlete Workshops
Translating the athlete - what does this mean?
Within sport, a key component of coaching is communication. How do we create an environment where our message to athlete’s doesn’t get ‘lost in translation?’
While coaches understand how to develop an athlete physically and technically within a sport, effective communication strategies are the connective tissues that help you deliver this knowledge to your athletes.
Course Details
This course is not looking to enhance your understanding of a particular sport or the physical/technical aspects. Rather we are looking at providing you with the skills to effectively translate that knowledge in a way that the athlete can understand.
Providing you as a coach with more effective communication strategies means you can help create an environment where the athlete is understood and improve the coach-athlete relationship. Having a broader understanding of psychological skills is the software that helps you to create the ‘connection’ to your athlete that can then enable them to develop.
Topics Covered
The course lasts four hours in total and can be split across two days or a one-day session.
Within the sessions the main topic points covered are:
Coaching Cues
Athlete Autonomy
An Introduction to Motivational Interviewing
