Athlete Development Pathway

Athlete Development Pathway

Our Athlete Development Pathway has been designed by Jamie Geraghty based off principles of Long-Term Athlete Development from Dr.Istvan Balyi and Sport Ireland’s Building Pathways in Irish Sport.

This concept was introduced by Balyi and it was concluded that specific and well planned practice would ensure optimum development throughout an athlete’s career.

Having an Athlete Development Pathway helps us as coaches better understand where our Athletes are in their stage of development and helps us to work with them better according to their needs.

The aim is to create an Athlete Development Pathway that helps us as coaches to create logical progressions in an athletes development, with specific levels and programmes for our athletes along each stage of the pathway.

Our Athlete Development Pathway is as follows:

Our Coaching Pathway then follows this model as we provide education to coaches around each specific stage and what is needed for the athlete at this stage of their development.
